** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Rødungen, a lake in the Buskerud region of Norway, typically has cool water temperatures that vary markedly with the seasons. In winter the surface is often at or just above freezing, around 0–2 °C (32–36 °F), and it may be ice-covered for extended periods. Spring temperatures commonly rise to roughly 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as the ice melts. During summer the surface can warm to about 10–20 °C (50–68 °F), with many years seeing typical bathing temperatures in the lower to mid-teens Celsius (around 12–16 °C / 54–61 °F) on calm, sunny days. Into autumn the lake usually cools back to roughly 5–12 °C (41–54 °F) as nights grow colder.
Swimming in Rødungen is generally possible and enjoyed by visitors in the warmer months, but it remains colder than many coastal bathing spots, so it is best suited to those prepared for cool water. There are no widespread public lifeguard services, and local conditions such as sudden depth changes, underwater vegetation, variable weather and possible regulation of water levels can affect safety. Many people use short dips, gradual acclimatization or wetsuits to extend swimming time. As with any natural lake, check local access rules and conditions before entering and exercise caution around inlets, outlets and steep shorelines.
