Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast
❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 47°F (8°C) to 50°F (10°C). This is still cool water, suitable only for experienced swimmers or those accustomed to cold water. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tunhovdfjorden is an inland lake in the former Buskerud area of southern Norway, and its water temperature follows typical seasonal patterns for Norwegian lowland lakes. In spring (May–June) the surface usually warms from around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts and daylight increases. Peak summer temperatures in July and August often reach about 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) in warm years, with shallow bays warming fastest. During autumn (September–October) the lake cools to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) and by winter the surface can be at or close to freezing, about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), often covered by ice for periods depending on the winter severity.
Swimming in Tunhovdfjorden is generally possible and commonly done in summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable; Norway’s public right of access (allemannsretten) allows bathing at most shorelines unless specific restrictions apply. Water quality in many parts of the lake is suitable for recreational use, but conditions vary with weather and runoff, so local advisories should be checked. Cold-water risks — including cold shock and rapid heat loss — make caution important, especially outside high summer. Ice swimming and winter bathing occur but require proper safety measures, local knowledge of ice thickness, and appropriate equipment.
