** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kalhovdfjorden is a mountain lake in Telemark County whose surface temperatures vary markedly through the year because of elevation, depth and local weather. In spring (April–May) the water is typically cold, around 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as snowmelt feeds the lake. Early and mid-summer (June–July) often brings the warmest surface readings, commonly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) and occasionally up to about 18–20 °C (64–68 °F) in very warm spells. By late summer and early autumn (August–September) temperatures tend to fall back to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). In winter the lake is frequently ice-covered and surface temperatures are near freezing, generally around 0–2 °C (32–36 °F) under or close to the ice.
Swimming in Kalhovdfjorden is generally permitted, as there are no widespread legal bans on bathing in such natural lakes, but practical conditions limit opportunities. The water is cold for much of the year and can present a risk of cold shock and rapid hypothermia, so most swimming is limited to the warmest weeks of summer or undertaken with protective gear such as a wetsuit. There are typically no lifeguards or facilities, and shoreline access can be rocky or marshy, so swimmers should take precautions, avoid swimming alone, and be mindful of changing weather and ice conditions.
