*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Randsfjorden, the largest lake in Innlandet County, typically shows pronounced seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In summer months surface temperatures commonly range from about 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), though warm, shallow bays can briefly reach the mid-20s °C (mid-70s °F) during heat waves. Spring and autumn are transitional, with surface waters roughly 4–15 °C (39–59 °F) as the lake cools or warms. In winter the lake often freezes or hovers close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) beneath ice, making swimming temperatures effectively at freezing point where open water occurs. Deeper water remains colder year-round and temperature varies with weather, wind and local depth, so readings at one spot may not represent the whole lake.
Swimming in Randsfjorden is generally allowed and common, reflecting Norway’s open-access outdoor traditions, but conditions determine whether it is advisable. Public beaches and designated bathing spots are the safest choices because they often have gentler entry, clearer water and nearby facilities; many other shorelines are suitable but unsupervised. Strong wind, boat traffic, sudden depth changes and cold water shock in shoulder seasons or under ice are the main hazards, so swimmers should exercise caution, check local conditions, and avoid winter ice unless experienced and properly equipped. Water quality is usually acceptable for bathing, though localized algal episodes or runoff can temporarily affect specific areas.
