Loch Rannoch, nestled in the heart of the Perthshire Highlands, offers a lengthy stretch of open, dark water that remains cold year-round. The seasonal water temperatures are characteristic of a deep Scottish loch, with winter lows dropping to about 4∘C to 5∘C (39∘F to 41∘F). In the summer, the water warms slightly but usually stays well below pool temperature, reaching maximums of around 13∘C to 15∘C (55∘F to 59∘F), making wetsuits a common choice for prolonged swimming.
Wild swimming is permitted in Loch Rannoch under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, which grants public access rights to most inland waters.
