*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Loch Arkaig is a long, narrow freshwater lake in the western Scottish Highlands, surrounded by dense pine forests and mountains near the village of Achnacarry. Its water remains cool throughout the year, reflecting the area’s maritime climate and shaded valleys. In winter, surface temperatures typically range from 3–5 °C (37–41 °F), rising slowly in spring to around 7–9 °C (45–48 °F). During summer, the water can reach 13–15 °C (55–59 °F) in calm, sunny conditions, though the deeper sections stay much colder. By autumn, the temperature usually drops again toward 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), maintaining a fresh, clear quality that defines many Highland lochs.
Swimming in Loch Arkaig is permitted and attracts those seeking peaceful, wild settings. The loch’s water is exceptionally clean, but it remains cold even in midsummer, so wetsuits are advised for comfort and safety. The surrounding hills can funnel sudden winds, so swimmers should stay close to shore. Many visitors come for short dips or combine swimming with kayaking and paddleboarding. The area is also rich in wildlife, including golden eagles and red deer. Nearby attractions include the Clan Cameron Museum, Glenfinnan Monument, and scenic forest trails leading toward Loch Lochy and the rugged landscapes of the Great Glen.
