*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Loch Lochy is a deep freshwater lake in the Great Glen of the Scottish Highlands, stretching between Loch Oich and Loch Linnhe. Its large size and sheltered mountain location keep the water cool throughout the year. In winter, temperatures usually stay around 4–5 °C (39–41 °F), rising gradually to about 8–10 °C (46–50 °F) in spring. During the summer months, the surface water can reach 13–15 °C (55–59 °F) on warm, calm days, though deeper parts remain near 6–8 °C (43–46 °F). By autumn, the temperature typically drops again to around 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), following the natural seasonal rhythm of the Highland lochs.
Swimming in Loch Lochy is allowed, and its clear, clean waters attract confident wild swimmers, though the cold temperature and occasional strong winds make it best suited for those with experience. Wetsuits are recommended at all times of year, as the loch rarely feels warm. The peaceful setting and scenic backdrop of surrounding hills create an impressive location for open-water swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The area also offers excellent walking trails, with the Great Glen Way running along the shore. Nearby attractions include Spean Bridge, the Caledonian Canal, and the dramatic scenery around Loch Arkaig and Ben Nevis.
