*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Loch Avich is a tranquil freshwater lake in Argyll, western Scotland, surrounded by forested hills and part of a chain of scenic lochs that includes the nearby Loch Awe. The water remains cool throughout the year, reflecting the area’s mild but wet coastal climate. In winter, the surface temperature usually stays around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F), rising slowly in spring to about 8–10 °C (46–50 °F). During the summer months, the loch can reach 14–16 °C (57–61 °F) in calm, sunny weather, though shaded and deeper parts remain much cooler. By autumn, the water cools again to around 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), maintaining a steady and refreshing temperature typical of western Scotland’s inland lakes.
Swimming in Loch Avich is allowed and appeals to wild swimmers looking for quiet, unspoiled surroundings. The water is clean and relatively calm, making it suitable for short swims in summer, though wetsuits are recommended as the temperature remains low even on warm days. The loch’s peaceful atmosphere and surrounding woodlands also make it ideal for kayaking, fishing, and walking. Nearby attractions include the larger Loch Awe with its historic Kilchurn Castle, the forest trails of Inverinan, and the scenic coastal roads leading toward Oban and the wider Argyll landscape.
