*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Loch Morar, located on the west coast of Scotland near the village of Mallaig, is one of the deepest freshwater lakes in Europe. Its clear, dark waters are fed by mountain streams and remain cold throughout the year due to the loch’s depth and sheltered Highland setting. In winter, the surface temperature typically ranges from 4–5 °C (39–41 °F), while in spring it gradually rises to around 7–9 °C (45–48 °F). During the summer, the surface can reach 13–15 °C (55–59 °F) on calm, sunny days, though deeper layers stay much colder. By autumn, the temperature falls again toward 8–10 °C (46–50 °F), maintaining a cool, fresh character year-round that reflects the region’s maritime climate.
Swimming in Loch Morar is permitted and attracts adventurous open-water swimmers who appreciate its striking scenery and pure water. However, the loch’s great depth and low temperature make it challenging, so wetsuits are recommended even in summer. The water is clean and tranquil, with sheltered bays that can be suitable for short swims during calm weather. The surrounding area offers opportunities for kayaking, hiking, and wildlife watching. Nearby attractions include the coastal village of Mallaig, Morar Sands, and the scenic Road to the Isles, one of Scotland’s most picturesque routes.
