*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Loch Achanalt is a small freshwater lake situated near Achnasheen in the northwestern Highlands of Scotland. Surrounded by open moorland and distant hills, it lies in a cool, exposed landscape where water temperatures remain low throughout the year. In winter, the loch typically measures around 2–4 °C (36–39 °F), sometimes forming a thin layer of ice during cold spells. In spring, it slowly warms to about 7–9 °C (45–48 °F), while in summer, the surface water can reach 13–15 °C (55–59 °F) on sunny days. By autumn, temperatures fall again to around 8–10 °C (46–50 °F), maintaining the fresh, brisk quality characteristic of Highland lakes at higher elevations.
Swimming in Loch Achanalt is permitted but best suited to experienced wild swimmers due to its cold temperature and remote setting. The water is clean and peaceful, offering a refreshing experience for short dips during midsummer when conditions are calmest. Wetsuits are recommended year-round for comfort and safety. The loch is also known for fishing and birdwatching, with open views of surrounding peatland and mountain ridges. Nearby attractions include Loch Achanalt Nature Reserve, Loch Fannich, and the scenic drive toward Torridon and the west coast, where rugged peaks and glens define the landscape.
