Lipsko Lake (Lipsko jezero) is a smaller, artificial compensation basin near Livno in Bosnia and Herzegovina, designed to regulate water flow between the Livanjsko Polje and the larger Buško Blato reservoir. Situated at a high elevation, the lake's water temperature is strongly influenced by cold inflow and altitude. In the winter, the water is naturally very cold, often hovering between 4∘C and 7∘C, sometimes experiencing partial freezing. During the summer, the shallow parts of the lake warm up more than deeper sections, with surface temperatures typically ranging from 18∘C to 22∘C in July and August.
Swimming in Lipsko Lake is generally allowed and occasionally practiced by locals, particularly during the warmest part of the summer. However, it's not a formally designated or supervised public beach area. The lake's primary function is hydro-technical regulation, meaning its water level and flow can fluctuate, which poses a risk.
