Location & Local Information
Buško Lake, located in the southwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina near Livno, is one of the largest artificial lakes in the Balkans. It was formed by damming the Buško Blato area and now covers a vast surface surrounded by karst hills and open plains. The water temperature in the lake varies depending on the season and weather conditions. In winter, it ranges between 4 and 7°C, rising in spring to about 12–16°C. During summer, especially in July and August, the temperature reaches 22–26°C, with shallow areas sometimes exceeding 27°C. In autumn, the lake cools gradually to around 14–18°C.
Swimming in Buško Lake is allowed and quite popular among locals and visitors during summer. The lake’s wide and calm surface provides excellent conditions for bathing, boating, and fishing. The water is clear and relatively warm in the shallower parts, making it suitable for recreational swimming. However, due to occasional winds and waves, caution is advised farther from the shore. The surrounding landscape of open fields and gentle hills adds to the lake’s appeal as a peaceful summer destination in Herzegovina.
