Location & Local Information
Župica Lake, located near Drvar in western Bosnia and Herzegovina, is an artificial reservoir surrounded by forested hills and quiet valleys. The lake was formed on the Unac River and is known for its clear, cool water and scenic beauty. Because of its elevation and the inflow of mountain streams, the water temperature remains relatively low throughout the year. In winter, it can drop to around 2–4°C, rising in spring to 10–13°C. During the summer months, the temperature reaches 18–22°C, occasionally up to 24°C on very warm days. In autumn, it gradually cools again to around 10–14°C.
Swimming in Župica Lake is possible and often enjoyed by locals during the summer, especially near the accessible banks. The water is clean and refreshing, although its coolness limits longer swimming sessions. There are no official beaches or lifeguards, but the lake’s calm waters and natural setting make it suitable for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. Visitors are attracted not only by the opportunity to bathe but also by the peaceful landscape and the surrounding pine forests.
