Lake Varna (Варненско езеро) is a shallow, brackish lagoon adjacent to the city of Varna on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, and its water temperatures fluctuate noticeably through the year. In winter the lake can cool to near freezing, typically around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F), while spring brings a gradual rise to roughly 6–15 °C (43–59 °F). During the warmest months of summer surface temperatures commonly reach about 22–28 °C (72–82 °F), though sheltered shallows may be a few degrees warmer. In autumn the lake cools again, with temperatures generally falling into the 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) range. Actual values depend on recent weather, wind, depth and connection to the sea, so seasonal ranges are indicative rather than exact.
Swimming in Lake Varna is possible and is practiced locally, especially in summer when temperatures become comfortable for bathing.
