Lake Techirghiol, located in South‑East Romania, is a shallow, saline body of water known for its warm, quickly warming surface temperatures and therapeutic mud. Seasonal surface temperatures vary considerably: in winter the water typically sits around 1–6 °C (34–43 °F), though the high salinity reduces the likelihood of complete freezing; spring sees a rise to roughly 8–18 °C (46–64 °F); summer surface temperatures commonly reach about 22–30 °C (72–86 °F) and can climb higher in shallow bays on hot days; autumn cooling usually places the lake between 12–20 °C (54–68 °F). Because the lake is relatively shallow, it responds rapidly to air temperature changes and can feel considerably warmer on sunny days.
Swimming and bathing do take place at Lake Techirghiol, particularly in the warmer months and in designated beach areas where recreational access is managed.
