Location & Local Information
Lake Rujište is a small, natural lake located in a mountainous area of Montenegro. Due to its high altitude and remote location, it is not a commercial or regulated swimming spot. Swimming is generally possible for those engaged in hiking or mountaineering, but it is not formally encouraged or managed. Visitors choosing to swim do so at their own risk, and should be prepared for the cold, clear waters typical of such alpine environments. The focus of the area is on untouched nature and hiking trails, not water-based tourism.
As a high-altitude mountain lake, the water temperature in Lake Rujište remains low throughout the year. In the winter months, from December to March, the surface typically freezes entirely, with temperatures near 0∘C to 1∘C beneath the ice. Even in the height of summer, specifically July and August, the water temperature barely rises above the very cold mark. Maximum surface temperatures are generally low, ranging between 12∘C and 15∘C. This cold range means swimming is limited to very brief, bracing dips only.
