Lake Mullutu-Suurlaht (Estonian: Mullutu-Suurlaht) is a shallow coastal lagoon on Saaremaa whose depth and sheltered character strongly influence water temperatures. In spring the surface typically warms from about 2–12 °C (36–54 °F) as ice melts and sunlight increases. By early summer temperatures often reach 15–18 °C (59–64 °F), and in the warmest weeks of July and August the lake commonly sits around 18–22 °C (64–72 °F), with sheltered bays sometimes climbing to 24–26 °C (75–79 °F) on calm, sunny days. In autumn the water cools back through roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) before freezing. Winter conditions bring surface temperatures close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and the lake frequently forms ice cover.
Swimming in Mullutu-Suurlaht is generally allowed and practiced by locals because it is a public natural waterbody, and the shallow basins warm quickly for summer bathing.
