*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Ķīšu karjers is a flooded quarry whose water temperatures reflect its depth and limited circulation. In spring surface temperatures are typically low, roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F), warming through late spring and early summer to about 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) on average, with occasional warm days pushing the surface toward 24 °C (75 °F). Because quarries can be deep, deeper layers often remain cold year-round and hover near 4 °C (39 °F), so thermal stratification can create a marked difference between warm surface water and chilly depths. In autumn the surface cools back toward about 8–14 °C (46–57 °F), and in winter the lake approaches freezing; ice and near‑0 °C (32 °F) conditions are common when air temperatures stay below freezing.
Swimming at Ķīšu karjers is generally discouraged and may be officially prohibited in parts; the main concerns are safety and water quality. Steep banks, sudden drop‑offs, submerged obstacles and cold, deep water increase the risk of accidents, and there are usually no lifeguards or facilities. Ice conditions in winter can be unstable, so winter bathing there is riskier than at designated, monitored sites. Local rules and conditions can vary, so it’s advisable to heed signage and use designated swimming beaches where safety measures are in place.
