The Blue Lakes of Zhytomyr region are a group of former granite quarries that have gradually filled with crystal-clear groundwater, forming some of the most beautiful swimming spots in central Ukraine. The water here is exceptionally clear with a bluish-green tint, which gives the lakes their name. Because of their depth and rocky origin, the water warms up more slowly than in natural shallow lakes. By late May, the temperature usually reaches around 17–19°C, while in July and August it can rise to 22–24°C. The surface layer warms faster, but the deeper water stays cool even during hot summer days, offering a refreshing contrast.
Swimming in the Blue Lakes is a unique experience. The water is clean, transparent, and pleasantly cool — perfect for those who enjoy natural and calm surroundings. The shores are steep in some places, but there are also gentle sandy entries suitable for comfortable bathing.
