** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Kerkini (Λίμνη Κερκίνη) in Central Macedonia is a shallow artificial reservoir whose water temperature varies seasonally according to air temperature and inflows. In winter the surface typically cools to about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), in spring it rises to roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as snowmelt and river discharge warm, and in summer temperatures commonly reach the low to high twenties, around 20–28 °C (68–82 °F) in the warmest months. Early autumn sees a gradual decline, with surface water often between 12–20 °C (54–68 °F). Local conditions such as wind, depth, and water release from the Strymonas River can cause noticeable short-term variation from these typical ranges.
Swimming in Lake Kerkini is generally discouraged and in many areas effectively restricted, primarily because the lake functions as a protected wetland and managed reservoir important for birdlife, habitat conservation and irrigation. Regulations, signage and management priorities aim to minimize disturbance to nesting and migrating birds and to control water quality and safety risks. In addition, variable depths, submerged vegetation and boat traffic can make swimming unsafe. While brief recreational wading or supervised bathing may occur in limited spots during warm months, visitors should follow local rules and guidance before entering the water.
