** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Deer Creek Reservoir is a high-altitude impoundment whose surface temperatures vary widely through the year. In winter the surface typically hovers near freezing to the mid-40s °F (about 0–7 °C) as cold air and inflowing snowmelt keep temperatures low. Spring sees a gradual rise, often ranging from the low 40s to mid-50s °F (4–13 °C). By summer the sun-warmed surface can reach roughly the mid-60s to low 70s °F (18–23 °C) on warm afternoons, though thermal stratification and inflows mean cooler pockets persist. In fall temperatures decline again, generally falling into the upper 40s to low 60s °F (9–16 °C) before winter cooling sets in.
Swimming is permitted at Deer Creek in appropriate areas during the warmer months, but it is seasonal and subject to park rules and staffing; many swimming opportunities are unguarded beach areas rather than supervised pools. The reservoir’s cold, deep water, sudden drop-offs, boat traffic, and variable currents from releases make caution important even when air temperatures are pleasant. Because water often stays colder than nearby air, brief exposure and layered wetsuits are common choices for longer swims; in winter the surface freezes in places and ice safety becomes a separate concern, so swimming is effectively restricted.
