** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mona Reservoir’s water temperatures vary markedly through the year because it is a relatively shallow, inland reservoir in Utah. In winter the surface often approaches freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). During spring melt and cool shoulder seasons temperatures typically rise into the 40–55°F range (4–13°C). In summer, on warm, calm afternoons shallow areas and nearshore water can warm to roughly 65–75°F (18–24°C), though deeper sections and shaded parts remain noticeably cooler. Early fall sees cooling back into the 55–65°F band (13–18°C). These figures are approximate and surface temperatures respond quickly to air temperature, wind and inflows, while subsurface water stays colder.
Swimming at Mona Reservoir is generally allowed because it is a public recreational water body, but conditions often dictate whether it’s practical or safe. Many visitors swim in the warmest summer months when surface temperatures are most comfortable, yet there are typically no lifeguards, and hazards such as cold thermoclines, steep drop-offs, boat traffic and fluctuating water levels from irrigation operations can increase risk. Water quality can also vary with runoff and algal growth. For these reasons swimmers should use caution, avoid solitary or prolonged cold-water immersion, and heed any posted rules or advisories before entering the water.
