** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Jordanelle Reservoir is a high-elevation, mountain-fed body of water, so its temperatures stay relatively cool compared with lower-elevation lakes. Typical surface temperatures vary by season: in spring (April–May) the surface often ranges from about 40–55°F (4–13°C) as snowmelt and runoff dominate; in summer (June–August) surface readings commonly reach roughly 60–75°F (15–24°C) on warm afternoons; in fall (September–October) temperatures generally fall back to around 45–60°F (7–16°C); and in winter the surface can approach freezing, roughly 32–39°F (0–4°C), with ice formation possible in cold spells. Deeper water stays markedly colder year-round, and sudden weather changes can drop surface temperatures quickly.
Swimming is permitted in areas of Jordanelle State Park and the reservoir is used for recreational swimming during the warmer months because the park is managed for multiple forms of water recreation. That said, swimmers should be aware of the lake’s cool temperatures, variable water levels, boat traffic, and possible drop-offs, all of which affect safety. Cold water can increase the risk of hypothermia even in summer, and many areas do not have lifeguards, so users are advised to swim in designated zones, use flotation if appropriate, and exercise caution.
