** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
East Canyon Reservoir sits at a moderate mountain elevation, so its water stays relatively cool year-round. Typical seasonal surface temperatures run from near freezing in winter—about 32–39°F (0–4°C) when ice or slush can form—through spring chills of roughly 34–55°F (1–13°C). In summer the warmest conditions are usually observed, with surface readings commonly between 60–75°F (16–24°C) on sunny afternoons, though deeper water remains noticeably colder. During fall the lake cools again, with temperatures often sliding into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) range. These values can vary with weather, inflows and reservoir releases, so local conditions may differ day to day.
Swimming is generally allowed at East Canyon Reservoir as part of the recreational uses managed by the state park, but it is subject to seasonal conditions and any posted restrictions. The cooler temperatures, especially outside mid-summer, present a risk of cold shock and hypothermia, and areas shared with boats or near spillways can be hazardous; designated swimming spots and park rules should be followed. Lifeguards are not typically provided, so visitors are advised to use caution, wear flotation if unsure of ability, and check current park advisories before entering the water.
