Bogovinje Lake is a small glacial lake located in the Šar Mountains in northwestern North Macedonia, at an altitude of about 1,800 meters above sea level. Because of its high elevation and mountain setting, the lake has very cold and clear water throughout most of the year. In winter, it often partially freezes, with temperatures around 1–4 °C, while in summer the water rarely exceeds 12–15 °C. The lake is fed by melting snow and mountain springs, which maintain its purity and coldness even during warm periods. Its surrounding alpine landscape makes it an attractive destination for hikers and nature lovers.
Swimming in Bogovinje Lake is technically allowed but not common due to the low water temperature and rocky shores. Even in midsummer, the water remains too cold for comfortable swimming, so most visitors only dip their feet or enjoy the scenery from the banks. The lake is valued more for its pristine nature, panoramic views, and peaceful environment than for bathing. It represents a beautiful example of the unspoiled mountain lakes of the Šar range.
