Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mavrovo Lake is an artificial reservoir located in the high mountainous Mavrovo National Park in North Macedonia, created primarily for hydro-power generation. Due to its high altitude and cold mountain water inflows, it is one of the colder large bodies of water in the country. In winter, the surface water temperature is extremely low, often ranging from 0∘C to 4∘C, with the potential for widespread freezing. Even during the height of summer, the water remains notably cool, with surface temperatures typically peaking between 17∘C and 20∘C, offering a brisk and refreshing experience.
Swimming in Mavrovo Lake is generally allowed and is a common recreational activity during the summer season, often near the villages and hotels along the shore. The lake is situated within a National Park and is fed by pristine mountain sources, giving it a reputation for having clean, high-quality water suitable for bathing. While the water remains quite cold compared to lowland lakes, its cleanliness encourages visitors. Swimmers should, however, be aware of the cold temperatures and the lack of formally designated and consistently lifeguarded public beaches.
