The Fierza Reservoir (Резервоар Фијерза, Liqeni i Fierzës) extends across the border between northern Albania and southwestern Kosovo, where the Drin River forms a vast artificial lake surrounded by steep mountain slopes. In the Kosovo section, the reservoir’s waters are deep and relatively cool, influenced by inflows from mountain rivers such as the White Drin. Water temperatures vary throughout the year, averaging around 4–6 °C in winter, 10–14 °C in spring, and reaching 20–24 °C in July and August. Because of its large volume and depth, the water warms slowly, maintaining a pleasant but fresh temperature during the summer months.
Swimming in the Fierza Reservoir is possible, though not widespread or officially organized in the Kosovo part. The lake’s clear water and scenic surroundings attract visitors for boating, fishing, and relaxation. In calm coves and shallower areas near villages, locals sometimes swim during warm weather, when the surface water is comfortable. However, deeper parts can be cold and unpredictable, so swimming is best limited to safe, accessible shorelines. The reservoir remains an impressive natural and technical feature, blending mountainous beauty with hydropower importance, and offering limited yet enjoyable swimming opportunities during summer.
