The Lim River flows through Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, creating a diverse landscape of mountains, valleys, and narrow gorges. It originates from the Plav Lake in Montenegro and carries cold, clear mountain water throughout its course. Because of its highland origin, the Lim maintains relatively low temperatures most of the year. In spring, the water temperature ranges from 8 to 13 °C, while in summer it rises to 18–22 °C, occasionally reaching 23 °C in slower sections. In autumn, the river cools to 12–17 °C, and in winter it often drops below 5 °C, sometimes forming ice near shallow banks.
Swimming in the Lim River is possible during the warmest months, mainly in July and August, when the water becomes more comfortable. In calm and wider areas near Prijepolje and Bijelo Polje, locals often swim or relax by the river, though it remains refreshingly cool. Due to strong currents and depth variations, swimming is safest in designated or well-known spots. The Lim is also popular for rafting, fishing, and kayaking, offering both adventure and natural beauty across several countries it passes through.
