The Đetinja River flows through western Serbia, passing the city of Užice before joining the West Morava. Originating in the Tara Mountains, it carries clear, cool water through a narrow valley surrounded by forests and hills. Because of its mountainous source and moderate flow, the water remains fresh most of the year. In spring, the temperature is between 9 and 14 °C, while in summer it warms to 18–23 °C in shallower parts. During autumn, the river cools again to 12–17 °C, and in winter it can drop below 5 °C, with some sections partially freezing. The clean water and mild flow make it one of the more attractive rivers in western Serbia.
Swimming in the Đetinja River is possible, particularly during July and August when the water reaches its warmest point. Locals often swim or relax in calm areas near Užice, where the current is weaker and the riverbed smooth. However, due to the fresh temperature and occasional stronger currents, swimming is advised only for experienced swimmers. The Đetinja is also popular for kayaking, fishing, and hiking along its scenic banks, offering both recreation and natural beauty in a peaceful mountain setting.
