The Bosna River, one of the main rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, flows from the spring near Ilidža through central parts of the country toward the Sava River. It has a mixed mountain and lowland character, which affects its water temperature throughout the year. In winter, the water remains cold, usually between 2 and 5°C. During spring, it rises to around 10–13°C, while in summer, especially near lower stretches, it reaches 18–23°C, occasionally up to 25°C in shallow and slow-flowing areas. In autumn, the temperature gradually drops to about 10–15°C.
Swimming in the Bosna River is allowed and practiced in several locations, mostly during the summer months when the water becomes comfortably warm. The water is generally clean in upper and middle sections, though lower parts near cities may have variable quality. Calm areas and natural riverbanks make it suitable for swimming, fishing, and recreation. However, in spring and after heavy rains, strong currents can make swimming less safe. The Bosna River remains a significant natural feature, offering refreshing opportunities and beautiful scenery throughout the country.
