Doboj lies along the middle course of the Bosna River, one of the major waterways in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The river has a moderate flow and a temperature pattern typical for continental climates. In winter, the water cools down to around 2–5 °C, while in summer it usually reaches 20–24 °C in calm sections near the city. The Bosna receives both mountain and lowland inflows, which keeps it fresh but not too cold during the warm season. Its clear and moderately deep stretches are suitable for brief swimming and recreation, especially in July and August.
Swimming in the Bosna near Doboj is allowed, although it is recommended to choose safe and known areas where the current is weaker.
