The Ukrina River is a relatively slow-flowing river in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its mild character and the beautiful phenomenon of the Tufa Flowers (Sedreni cvjetovi) near its mouth. Due to its position in the Pannonian basin and lower altitude compared to mountain rivers, its water experiences a wider seasonal temperature range. In the winter months, the Ukrina is cold, with temperatures typically dropping to between 5∘C and 10∘C. However, during the height of summer, the water warms up considerably, often reaching comfortable swimming temperatures ranging from 22∘C to 25∘C in July and August.
Swimming in the Ukrina River is a traditional and widespread local activity during the warm season. The river is generally clean, and its slower current in many sections makes it safer for public recreation compared to faster-flowing mountain rivers. While there are no strict official regulations or entry fees, locals have long established informal bathing spots along its banks.
