*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#North Yorkshire
Swinsty Reservoir’s water is typically cool year-round. In winter surface temperatures commonly sit around 2–6 °C (36–43 °F), rising through spring to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). In summer the reservoir may reach about 14–18 °C (57–64 °F) on warmer days, while autumn sees a decline back toward 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). These figures are approximate and vary with weather, depth and flow; deeper or shaded areas stay colder even in summer.
Swimming in Swinsty is not officially permitted, primarily because it is a working reservoir where water quality, steep banks, sudden drop-offs and the risk of cold-water shock present safety and operational concerns. Yorkshire Water and local authorities therefore discourage wild swimming and there are no lifeguards or designated bathing areas. Visitors instead enjoy the well-maintained walking paths, birdwatching and cycling around the reservoir. Nearby attractions include the adjacent Fewston Reservoir, the attractive villages of Timble and Otley, and the wider Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, all offering trails and countryside scenery.
