*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Yorkshire
Thruscross Reservoir in the Washburn Valley is an upland body of water so temperatures tend to stay cool year-round. Typical surface temperatures in summer are around 12–16 °C (54–61 °F), while spring and autumn commonly see 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). In winter the water can be close to freezing, roughly 0–6 °C (32–43 °F), so prolonged immersion carries a significant risk of cold shock and hypothermia. There is no formal, lifeguarded bathing area at Thruscross and swimming is not actively promoted; landowner rules, water quality management and safety concerns such as sudden drop-offs, submerged obstacles and cold temperatures mean many people are discouraged from swimming there and should check local signage or operator guidance before entering the water.
Despite limited swimming options, the reservoir is popular for walking, cycling and wildlife watching. Concentrated stretches of woodland and moorland around the dam provide pleasant trails and viewpoints, and nearby Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs offer similar scenic promenades. The area also gives access to wider Yorkshire Dales scenery and small villages where visitors can find refreshments and local history.
