*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#West Yorkshire
Walshaw Dean Reservoirs sit high on the Pennine moors and the water remains cold throughout the year. Surface temperatures typically range from around 1–6°C (34–43°F) in winter, easing to roughly 4–10°C (39–50°F) in spring. In the warmest months the water may reach about 10–16°C (50–61°F), while autumn usually brings a falling range of roughly 6–11°C (43–52°F). These figures are approximate and can vary with weather, depth and water flow; even in summer the reservoirs feel bracing compared with lowland lakes.
Swimming is generally not recommended and in many cases is prohibited or strongly discouraged because the reservoirs form part of a drinking water catchment and have steep, slippery banks, cold temperatures, sudden depth changes and limited rescue access. Visitors should observe local signage and water company guidance. The area is popular for other pursuits: moorland walking, sections of the Calderdale Way and Pennine routes, and nearby villages such as Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge offer cafés, history and scenic views for day visitors.
