*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#North Yorkshire
Grimwith Reservoir, high in Nidderdale, typically stays cool year-round. Winter surface temperatures commonly sit around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), spring rises to roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), summer surface temperatures usually reach about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F), and autumn falls back to near 6–11 °C (43–52 °F). These figures vary with depth, weather and recent rainfall; deeper water and cloudy conditions will be colder. Cold water shock is a real risk even in summer when temperatures are below what many swimmers expect.
Swimming in Grimwith is generally discouraged by the reservoir owner because of safety issues and potential impacts on the public water supply — hidden currents, submerged structures and intake workings make unsupervised bathing hazardous. Organized water-sport activities such as sailing and licensed angling take place under controlled conditions, and some experienced wild swimmers do visit at their own risk. The area nevertheless attracts walkers and birdwatchers, with waymarked trails, views across Nidderdale AONB and the nearby town of Pateley Bridge offering local amenities and additional countryside access.
