** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Studen Kladenets (Студен кладенец) is a large reservoir on the Arda River in southern Bulgaria whose surface waters show marked seasonal variation. In winter the lake surface typically falls to near freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and ice can form in sustained cold spells. Spring temperatures gradually rise to roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as the snowmelt and inflows cool the basin. The warmest period is mid-summer, when surface readings often reach about 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) on sunny days, though deeper layers remain noticeably colder. In autumn the water cools again to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) as air temperatures drop and mixing resumes. Local conditions such as wind, water depth and inflows can produce significant short-term variation and a distinct thermocline in deeper parts of the reservoir.
Swimming in Studen Kladenets is possible but not uniformly managed as at a staffed beach. Recreational bathing tends to be concentrated in summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable, yet safety considerations are important: steep drop-offs, sudden depth changes, underwater currents near dam structures, boat traffic and limited lifeguard or rescue services can make some areas hazardous. Additionally, access and restrictions may vary by spot and by local authorities, so swimmers should choose sheltered, shallow areas, check recent local advice and avoid zones close to dams or hydropower installations.
