*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Saimaa, the largest lake in Finland, lies in the southeast of the country and stretches across several regions, including South and North Karelia as well as parts of South Savo. The water temperature of Saimaa changes significantly with the seasons. In winter, when much of the lake is covered with ice, temperatures remain near 0 °C. As spring progresses, the surface begins to warm, and by mid-summer the temperature in shallow bays can reach 18–22 °C, while open water areas usually stay around 16–19 °C. In autumn, the temperature gradually falls below 10 °C. These variations make Saimaa ideal for both winter and summer recreation.
Swimming is allowed and very popular in Lake Saimaa, especially from June to early September, when the water feels most pleasant. The lake’s clean, soft freshwater and numerous beaches create excellent conditions for swimming and other water activities. During the colder months, some locals also enjoy winter swimming at specially prepared spots near saunas. The surrounding region offers peaceful nature, pine forests, and small harbours, making Saimaa one of Finland’s most inviting freshwater destinations.
