*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Puruvesi is a large and deep lake in the South Savo region, famous for its exceptionally clear water, which is almost as transparent as ocean water due to its isolated position within the Greater Saimaa system. Swimming is freely allowed along its shores and at any accessible points, a freedom guaranteed by Finland’s Everyman’s Rights. This principle ensures the public's access to natural waters for recreation. Puruvesi’s famously high water quality makes it an outstanding location for bathing, and its many sandy esker beaches are highly popular. Local authorities oversee the safety and hygiene of designated public bathing sites.
The deep and clear nature of Puruvesi means its large water mass heats up slowly and retains heat longer than shallower lakes, experiencing the typical severe seasonal changes. During the winter, generally from December to April, the lake is reliably frozen, and the water temperature below the ice layer remains cold, consistently between 0∘C and 4∘C. The main season for comfortable surface swimming is brief, concentrated in July. During this peak summer period, surface temperatures in sun-warmed, shallower bays typically reach an approximate range of 18∘C to 21∘C. Outside of this warm peak, the water is generally too cool for casual bathers.
