** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Suontee is a large, deep lake in the South Savo region, noted for its rugged, fragmented nature and high water quality. Swimming is widely permitted along its extensive shores and at any local public spots, a right safeguarded by Finland's Everyman’s Rights. This fundamental principle ensures the public's right to access and use natural bodies of water for recreation without permission. The lake's clear, nutrient-poor water provides excellent conditions for bathing, and its numerous esker beaches are highly popular. Local municipalities are responsible for monitoring the safety and hygiene of designated public bathing sites, especially during the peak season.
The water temperature in Suontee follows the pronounced seasonal cycle typical of large, deep Finnish lakes. During the long winter period, generally from December to April, the lake is reliably covered by a thick ice layer. The water temperature below the ice remains stable and cold, consistently between 0∘C and 4∘C. The most comfortable period for swimming in the surface layer is short, peaking in July. During this mid-summer month, surface temperatures in sun-warmed bays and shallower nearshore areas typically range from 18∘C to 21∘C. However, due to the lake’s size and depth, the main basin often remains slightly cooler. Outside of the warm summer peak, the water is generally too cold for casual swimmers.
