*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Kallavesi, a large lake system in North Savo, is a central feature of the Kuopio region and offers excellent swimming opportunities. Swimming is allowed across the lake, including numerous public beaches and private shores, a right safeguarded by Finland's Everyman’s Rights. The deep and extensive nature of Kallavesi maintains generally good water quality, making it suitable for recreation. The lake is used year-round, with many shore saunas offering direct access for both summer and cold-water (ice) swimming in the winter.
The water temperature in Kallavesi follows a distinct cold-climate cycle. The lake is covered by ice for a long period, typically from November to May, during which the water beneath the ice remains consistently cold, between 0∘C and 4∘C. The most pleasant time for surface swimming is during the peak of summer, primarily July. Average surface temperatures during this month are around 18∘C, but in shallower, protected areas, the temperature can occasionally rise to 21∘C. Outside of mid-summer, the water is too cool for casual bathing, though it attracts dedicated cold-water swimmers who often use maintained bathing holes.
