*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Orivesi, one of the major basins of the vast Saimaa system in North Karelia, is Finland's seventh largest lake and is known for its excellent water quality and extensive, rugged shoreline. Swimming is generally permitted across the lake's accessible shores, including designated beaches in municipalities like Liperi and Rääkkylä. This freedom is safeguarded by Finland’s Everyman’s Rights, which grants public recreational access to natural water bodies, allowing swimming without explicit permission, provided no damage is caused.
As is typical for large Finnish lakes, Orivesi experiences a pronounced seasonal temperature cycle. The water is cold for most of the year, with the surface freezing over from approximately November to May. Beneath the thick ice layer, the water maintains a chilling temperature between 0∘C and 4∘C. The short window for comfortable summer swimming peaks in July, during which the surface water temperature typically reaches a range of 18∘C to 22∘C in shallower, sheltered bays. Outside of this period, the lake's cool temperatures primarily appeal to those practicing cold-water or winter swimming.
