*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Höytiäinen, often referred to as the Pearl of Eastern Finland, is a large and deep lake in North Karelia, celebrated for its exceptionally clean and clear water. Swimming is freely allowed along the vast shoreline, which includes public beaches, backed by Everyman’s Rights. This Finnish principle grants individuals the right to access and use natural water bodies for recreational purposes. The excellent water quality, which often boasts high standards according to local monitoring, makes Höytiäinen a highly safe and popular destination for summer swimming.
Due to its northern location, Lake Höytiäinen experiences cold water temperatures for most of the year. The lake typically freezes over for an extended period from November to May, with the water below the ice remaining consistently cold, generally between 0∘C and 4∘C. The main season for comfortable surface swimming is brief, peaking in July. During this time, the surface temperature can warm up to a range of 18∘C to 22∘C in sunnier, shallower areas. Outside of this warm peak, the water is cool, mainly appealing to cold-water enthusiasts and those participating in the tradition of winter swimming.
