*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Pyhäselkä, located in North Karelia near the city of Joensuu, is a large and open lake forming part of the Saimaa lake system in eastern Finland. Its relatively deep waters and exposure to winds from the east mean that it warms up more slowly than smaller inland lakes. In spring, after the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface temperature is about 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). During early summer, it rises to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest period, the lake typically reaches 18–21 °C (64–70 °F). On hot days, sheltered bays can briefly reach 22–23 °C (72–73 °F). By September, the temperature cools below 10 °C (50 °F), and Pyhäselkä generally freezes again in late November.
Swimming in Lake Pyhäselkä is allowed and popular, especially during the summer months. The water quality is generally good, and Joensuu has several maintained public beaches and swimming piers. The lake’s wide and calm bays provide safe areas for families and open-water swimmers alike. Although the water may remain cool compared with smaller lakes, its clarity and scenic surroundings make swimming a refreshing and enjoyable experience, characteristic of Finland’s clean eastern lake district.
