Location & Local Information
Doiran Lake lies in the southeastern part of North Macedonia, on the border with Greece, and is one of the country’s warmest natural lakes. Its relatively shallow depth allows the water to warm quickly in spring and summer. In winter, temperatures drop to around 4–7 °C, but by late spring the water often reaches 18–20 °C. During the summer months, especially from June to September, the temperature rises to 24–27 °C, occasionally even higher during heatwaves. The pleasant warmth and calm surface make the lake ideal for swimming, fishing, and recreational boating.
Swimming in Doiran Lake is allowed and very popular among both locals and visitors. The lake’s shores have sandy and gently sloping areas suitable for families and children. The water remains clear and comfortable, particularly on the North Macedonian side, where several small beaches and facilities are maintained. Thanks to its mild temperatures and easy access, Doiran Lake is considered one of the best natural swimming destinations in the country.
