** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Öjen is a lake in Dalarna County, Sweden, known locally as Öjen. Surface water temperatures vary seasonally: in winter the lake is typically at or just above freezing (around 0–4 °C / 32–39 °F) and often ice-covered; spring brings a gradual rise to roughly 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as thaw progresses; summer surface temperatures commonly range from about 12–22 °C (54–72 °F) depending on weather and depth, with the warmest weeks occasionally reaching the low twenties Celsius; autumn cooling returns temperatures to roughly 5–12 °C (41–54 °F). Deeper water remains colder year-round, so surface readings can overstate what swimmers feel once they dive below the top layer.
Swimming at Öjen is generally possible and practiced by locals and visitors. Under Sweden’s right of public access, shorelines are often open for bathing, but private-property restrictions and local safety rules may limit access to some spots. Water quality, wind, sudden depth changes and cold-water shock in shoulder seasons are the main considerations; during summer the lake is most comfortable for recreational swimming, while spring and autumn swims require caution and appropriate cold-water experience or protective gear.
