** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Siljan (Siljan) in Dalarna County is a large, glacially formed lake with considerable variation in water temperature through the year. After ice-out in spring the surface typically ranges from about 0–8 °C (32–46 °F), warming through late spring and reaching typical summer temperatures of roughly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), with shallow bays occasionally rising to around 24 °C (75 °F) on warm days. In early autumn the water cools to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) and in winter the surface often freezes; water temperatures under ice hover close to 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Local conditions such as wind, depth and sunshine create noticeable differences between open-water areas and sheltered inlets.
Swimming in Siljan is generally permitted and popular in summer where public beaches, piers and designated bathing spots provide access. Many locations are suitable for casual swimming when temperatures are pleasant, and some staffed beaches operate during peak months, but caution is advised because the lake can have sudden depth changes, boat traffic and colder pockets even on warm days. Water quality is usually monitored by municipalities, yet early- and late-season swimming carries a higher hypothermia risk; for cold-water or solitary swims, wetsuits, visible swim aids and adherence to local guidance are recommended. Ice swimming occurs but should only be attempted with proper safety measures.
