** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Greater Manchester
Yeoman Hey Reservoir sits in the Longdendale valley of Greater Manchester and typically carries cold water year-round. Seasonal surface temperatures commonly range from about 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) in winter, 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) through spring and autumn, and 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in summer, with sheltered, shallow spots occasionally reaching around 20 °C (68 °F) on very warm days. Deep water and inflows from moorland keep the reservoir cooler than nearby lowland lakes, and weather conditions can change temperatures quickly.
Swimming at Yeoman Hey is generally discouraged and often prohibited because it is a working reservoir in a public water supply system and presents safety risks such as cold shock, sudden depth changes and strong undercurrents from outlet works. Informal wild swimming does occur but is at an individual’s own risk and may be against local bylaws. The area is still attractive for outdoor visitors, offering the Longdendale Trail, nearby reservoirs in the chain, Pennine walking routes and the scenic Woodhead and Glossop countryside for hiking and cycling.
