Brushes Reservoir, set in the hills of Greater Manchester, tends to be cold for much of the year. In summer the water can reach approximately 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) on warmer days, while autumn sees a gradual decline to about 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). These figures are approximate and can vary with weather, depth and inflows; deeper water and cloudy conditions keep temperatures lower than shallow lakes or sheltered bays.
Swimming at Brushes Reservoir is generally discouraged or not permitted because it is a working water supply and presents safety risks such as cold-water shock, steep banks and underwater hazards.
