** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Rāzna, Latvia’s second-largest lake, shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the surface is usually at or near 0 °C (32 °F) beneath ice cover. Spring thaw brings surface temperatures up from roughly 2–12 °C (36–54 °F) in April–May. By early summer in June the surface commonly reaches about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F), while midsummer averages in July and August are typically around 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), with occasional heat spells pushing readings toward 25–26 °C (77–79 °F). As autumn progresses the surface cools again to roughly 10–15 °C (50–59 °F). Deeper layers remain substantially colder year-round, so thermoclines can make temperature change rapidly with depth.
Swimming at Lake Rāzna is a regular summertime activity and is generally allowed, especially at designated bathing spots and recreational areas within the Rāzna National Park. Local authorities monitor water quality seasonally, and organized beaches may have facilities or occasional supervision, but conditions vary by site. Bathers should be mindful of sudden depth changes, cooler deep water, and variable weather; in winter the lake is ice-covered and normal swimming is not possible except for regulated ice-swimming events with safety measures. Overall, summer surface temperatures make swimming comfortable for many visitors, while colder seasons limit safe recreational swimming.
